S&J Moving

Free, No-Obligation Estimate

Takes about 2 minutes.

A two-man, owner-operated moving crew that has worked Jacksonville and Onslow County since 2017. Shawn and Jason know the Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River gate passes, the PCS and DITY timelines, the stilted beach houses out on Topsail Island, and the humid, hurricane-season wrapping coastal Carolina demands, and they hand you a fair hourly rate or a flat quote in writing with no surprises.

Three Steps to Moving Day

From that first conversation to the last box set down in exactly the right room.

1

Tell Us About the Move

Walk Shawn or Jason through the details, over the phone, on a quick video call, or through the online form. They are also happy to come by in person for an estimate, and either way you get a fair hourly rate or a written flat quote back, never a number that quietly grows once the truck is full.

2

Lock In Your Date

Claim your day and we set the truck and the two-man team, then square away the base-access pass at Camp Lejeune or New River, the PCS or DITY paperwork, and the U-Haul truck or POD container we are loading or unloading.

3

We Carry the Load

Shawn and Jason wrap, load, drive, and place every piece themselves, and we plan the run around US-17, NC-24, Western Boulevard, and Gum Branch Road to keep the day on schedule.

Your Move, Fully Covered

We handle every step, starting with the first blanket down on the floor and ending with the last box set in the back room.

Fully Insured

Every job carries cargo and liability coverage, and Shawn and Jason go over your valuation options with you together before any paperwork gets signed.

PCS & Base-Access Ready

Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River gate passes, PCS and DITY timelines, on-base housing at Tarawa Terrace or Midway Park, and coastal humidity and hurricane-season wrapping, we sort the access and the paperwork ahead of time so a Jacksonville move never gets held up at the gate.

Padded & Wrapped

Every item gets blanketed, shrink-wrapped, and strapped down snug, it is the kind of careful wrapping customers mention again and again. Should anything take a bump along the way, we flag it immediately and make it right.

Done Right

One honest price, a two-person crew that treats the job like it is their own, and the work is not finished until every last item is exactly where you wanted it.

Meet the crew

Owner-Operated, Not Brokered

The crew at your door is Shawn and Jason themselves, not day-labor scraped off an app that morning. One of them often handles the in-home estimate in person, and the same two guys stay with your move from the first box through to the last.

  • The same two guys, job after job
  • Used to Camp Lejeune gate passes, PCS timelines, and tight coastal streets
  • You deal with Shawn and Jason, not a call center
Our trucks

Clean, Careful Trucks

Every truck we send out is clean and stocked with gear, and the S&J crew rides along with it. Renting your own truck or a POD instead? We will pack it or empty it out with the exact same level of care.

  • Well-kept trucks with pads and liftgates
  • Stocked with pads, dollies, straps, and shrink
  • We also load your rented truck, POD, or container
How this started

The Story Behind the Name

“We started S&J Moving here in Jacksonville back in 2017 with one truck and one plain promise: show up on time, quote a fair rate, and treat your belongings like our own. It is still just the two of us on every job, no crew of strangers.”

What Shawn and Jason have learned over the years is what actually trips up a Jacksonville move, the base-access gate passes and PCS timelines at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River, the stilted beach houses out on Topsail Island with their steep outside stairs, the humidity and hurricane-season wrapping coastal Carolina calls for, and the rural back roads out past Richlands and Hubert where a GPS alone will not cut it. Keeping the same two guys on your job matters more to them than squeezing out one quick payday.

Questions We Hear a Lot

What will my move cost?

Cost comes down to two variables: how much you are moving and how hard the truck has to work to reach it. Our two-person crew starts at $110/hr, and you will have a written number before the first box gets lifted. Prefer one locked-in figure? Shawn or Jason will write you a flat quote, and that is exactly what lands on your invoice. Once a move crosses into another state, we switch the math over to weight and mileage.

My place is an older home near downtown Jacksonville, or a stilted beach house out on Topsail Island. Can you handle the stairs?

That is a lot of what we do. The older streets around downtown Jacksonville are full of homes with tight staircases and narrow hallways, and out on Topsail a good share of houses sit up on pilings with a steep outside stairway and no elevator in sight. Shawn and Jason are used to snug turns, elevated entries, and a longer carry up to the door. We walk the stairs and doorways ahead of the move, wrap the railings and door jambs for protection, and slow down on the heaviest pieces, which keeps an older downtown home or a stilted beach house from turning into a headache.

We’re PCSing to Camp Lejeune or MCAS New River and need a base-access gate pass sorted out. Can you handle that?

Yes, and it is a big part of what we do. A steady share of our jobs are PCS or DITY/PPM moves onto or off Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River, and getting through the gate takes a visitor pass or a sponsor to walk it through, plus knowing on-base housing like Tarawa Terrace, Midway Park, and Berkeley Manor and their own inspection windows. Send us your orders and gate contact when you book, and we work out the pass, plan around the inspection timeline, and time the move so nothing holds you up at the gate.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. S&J Moving carries North Carolina licensing and insurance, and Shawn and Jason staff every job themselves, with no broker wedged in the middle taking a cut. Want the coverage details? Just ask and we will walk you through the valuation options before you sign off on anything.

There is no easy truck spot, just a base gate to clear or a tight coastal street with no driveway at all. Is that a problem?

Honestly, that is a normal Tuesday for us. Tell us the address when you book and we will work out the truck placement ahead of time, whether that means clearing a Camp Lejeune checkpoint first or working a tight street in Swansboro or Sneads Ferry with no driveway at all. Our guys plan for base check-in lines and a longer haul from the curb, not a flat suburban driveway every time.

Do you take a deposit?

Just a small, refundable amount that holds your date on the calendar, and it applies straight to your final bill, so none of it is money lost. Give us a couple of days’ notice if plans change and you cancel, and the full amount comes back to you. Nothing here is buried in fine print, it is all spelled out in your booking from day one.

How and when do I pay?

You owe nothing until the last box is off the truck, not a minute sooner. Cards, checks, and cash all work fine. Shawn or Jason walks you through the final number at your door before anyone drives away, and you sign off on it.

Is there anything you won’t load?

It is a short list, and everything on it is there for safety or legal reasons: things like propane, gasoline, and paint, plus ammunition, live plants, animals, and anything perishable. Have a piece that is oversized, unusually heavy, or especially valuable? Let us know when you book so we show up with the right equipment for it.

I requested for an unload, like last month and Shawn gave me a call about the unload and how they would do it the earliest they can. And their prices are well balanced. I would most likely use S&J moving again when I need too, and the movers were really nice and helpful and respectful with my stuff and i gave them a really good tip for it too thank you S&J moving

I requested an unload from them very last minute through the U-Haul app. (Which is wrong of me I should've planned better on my part.) They gave me a call back a few hours later that night and it was very fortunate they had the time and were able to make it happen the very next morning. The movers were fast and professional. Definitely a 5 star service

My husband and I were having two of our PODS delivered on a Monday. On very short notice (less than 24hrs), Shawn returned my call on a Sunday (even though I did not leave a message) and got us on the schedule Monday afternoon. After the first pod was unloaded , they left and returned after 5 pm when the second pod arrived. The crew of 3 was fast and organized. They were very careful bringing in our belongings. And the price was reasonable. We were so grateful that we found S&J Moving. They were a Godsend.

I scheduled with them and same day I got a call to confirm all the details with me and when I had questions he explained concisely and respectfully. Considering the level and quality of service, the cost is definitely worth it. The person I spoke with said his name is Shawn (or possibly Sean, i'm not sure which spelling). Incredible customer service.
